Rural language programs
These
programs bring language and self-worth to deaf people
who are isolated and outcast. Honduran Sign Language
is introduced through visual aids, games, and Bible
depictions. As these programs are established, Deaf
communities are emerging, and the stigma towards the
Ddeaf is being dissolved.
• Deaf Church planting
By 2008, we hope to plant three new Churches of the
Deaf in rural Honduras.
• Deaf camps throughout rural Honduras
These camps bring together the Ddeaf to encourage
a sense of self-worth, belonging, and cultural identity
in an environment fostered for spiritual, educational,
and social growth.
• General ministry operations
Our daily operations in Honduras take their toll.
We are currently serving in 6 states (departments)
reaching over 200 Ddeaf Hondurans. Since we are itinerant
in nature, our travel costs are demanding along with
all the many different programs we offer. For more
information, please checkout our website at www.signsoflove.org
and click on ‘honduras programs’.
• Supporting an indigenous Deaf pastor
Mario Antunez – Pastor Mario
was born in 1976 in La Ceiba, Honduras. When he was
first introduced to our organization, he had minimal
language, and had never been out of his home town.
God has given Mario a heart for His people, and Mario
is a living miracle of God’s love. God has transformed
him into a captivating presenter who has studied internationally,
and is serving the rural deaf of his country. Mario’s
desire and passion is to plant Deaf Churches throughout
rural Honduras. He is currently pastoring the first
Church of the Deaf in Northern Honduras.
• Supporting an indigenous Deaf missionary
Rosa – Rosa was born in 1983
in La Ceiba, Honduras. She is currently teaching Honduran
Sign Language to deaf children, and her heart’s
desire is to do this on a full-time basis with deaf
children throughout rural Honduras. Rosa assists with
all of our language programs in rural villages, and
she also serves on the song & drama teams at the
Church of the Deaf.
Patricia – Patricia was born
in 1970 in La Ceiba, Honduras. When she was introduced
to our organization, she knew no sign language, had
no friends, and was afraid to leave her home. Patricia
now serves with Signs of Love and has a passion for
teaching language to people who were once like she
was. She champions our home visits where she teaches
sign language to the deaf. She is also the song leader
and on the drama team at the Church of the Deaf.
Edwin – Edwin was born in 1984
in La Ceiba, Honduras. Edwin is a hard worker willing
to do anything. He has a servant’s heart and
desires to serve full-time with Signs of Love. His
desire is to serve in whatever area he’s needed,
and be a servant-leader to the Ddeaf of Honduras.
Edwin is learning from Pastor Mario, and we hope one
day Edwin will be planting and pastoring a Church
of the Deaf.
• Supporting a North American missionary
Jennifer Miller – Jennifer
was born in 1981, and is from Houston, Texas. She
has served with Signs of Love in Honduras for 6 months
and will be serving a 2-year term commencing January
2005. Her role will be serving as our in-country director
alongside our Deaf Honduran leaders.
Robin Hanna – Robin was born
in 1968, and is from Southern California. She is the
founder of Signs of Love, and has been living in Honduras
since 1999 serving the rural Ddeaf. Robin has dedicated
her life to this work, and will be growing the organization
into other developing nations whose deaf are oppressed
and disenfranchised.
