| Our
base of operations is in La Ceiba, the 3rd largest city located
on the northern coast of Honduras. The programs and services
currently offered for the Deaf/deaf and hearing are:
Sign
language classes - language is introduced through
visual aids, games, and Bible depictions
Church
of the Deaf in La Ceiba, Honduras - Pastor is a Deaf
Honduran
Social
events - designed to encourage self-sufficiency amongst
the Deaf/deaf, as well as develop a network of support and
a sense of cultural identity
Care
fund - provides support for Deaf in grave need or
special circumstances
Evangelistic
campaigns - events held to evangelize the Deaf/deaf
through miming, body language, clowning, and other non-manual
behaviors
Discipleship
training - Bible studies coupled with home-visits
to those Deaf/deaf not wishing to participate in group studies
Volunteer
training/support - classes and seminars for persons
who work with or desire to work with the Deaf/deaf
Deaf
camps - held throughout the country to bring together
the Deaf/deaf to encourage a sense of self-worth, belonging,
and cultural identity in an environment fostered for spiritual,
educational, and social growth
Literacy
campaign - achieving literacy amongst the Deaf/deaf
via production of Honduran Sign Language (LESHO) flashcards,
regional dictionary, cd-rom, and video
Community
awareness/education - we dispel myths the hearing
community has towards the Deaf/deaf through presentations,
dramas, sign language classes, and workshops geared for hearing
people
