Tesorito is a charming village nestled between the mountain and the ocean near the city of Trujillo. We host language programs in Tesorito and its participants are represented by several neighboring communities. Tesorito means “little treasure,” and that it is!  This village always manages to be a favorite with most of our volunteers.  The people in this village are very hospitable, and will usher you to a chair and put a big plate of food in front of you before you even have a chance to say, “Hola.”  The deaf are becoming very expressive and their faces are usually covered in smiles.  Several years ago, the mother of one of the little boys who attends this program asked us to ‘just keep my child…I have enough hearing ones, I don’t need this deaf one.’  We explained to this mother that her ‘deaf one’ is smarter than all her children put together, and that if she is just patient with us, she will see this in due time.  Well, it happened.  This little boy’s parents love and treasure him, and even honor him in front of the other children!  Signs of Love is making a difference…in the lives of many.
